Representing the Bellanet Alliance in Canada – Groupsia launches
December 17th, 2008 § 2 Comments
Last Friday Groupsia International became an officially incorporated organization in Canada. Groupsia – pronouncedGroupsia is also part of the Bellanet Alliance of Social Entrepreneurs, an innovative international group of organizations based in Canada, Costa Rica, Nepal, and Uganda who have formed an alliance that builds on the work Bellanet started.
Groupsia will represent Bellanet in Canada, and along with the other partners, internationally. Groupsia has an informal advisory group comprised of some of the original innovators of Bellanet including its founder and first director David Balson, Sam Lanfranco whom helped to conceptualize Bellanet and Lucie Lamoureux who has become known around the world for her continuing work on km4dev. As well, John Vekar, who has a background in media, cultural funding and policy, is an informal advisor.
I like what you are doing with Groupsia, and how Canada utilizes Social Entrepreneurs.
I believe social entrepreneurs are what is missing in capitalist countries, and in politics. They need to be utilized properly, and they could make the world better.

Hi Dev, yes thanks for the positive feedback. There seems to be a rapidly growing recognition of the value of social entrepreneurs (both not-for-profit and for-profit). It will be interesting to see what affect this has on the overall development landscape – FYI here’s yet another conference next year on the topic – http://www.socialenterpriseclub.com/conference/
